| Mother Teresa Catholic Parish was established on September 1, 1999, by The Most Rev Robert J. Carlson, Bishop of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, SD. The Rev Anthony P. Opem was also appointed founding pastor. The first Mass was celebrated on Sunday, October 3, 1999, in the North Sioux City Community Center. Daily Mass began in the Rectory Chapel on Wednesday, January 19, 2000. Parish Religious Education classes began on Sunday, September 3, 2000. Classes were held after Mass in the North Sioux City Community Center. Parish Committees were established and began meeting in September 2002. A building campaign began in April, 2003. Ten acres of land were purchased on Friday, May 30, 2003. Construction for a chapel with a social hall, kitchen, classrooms and a rectory began on June 25, 2003, with completion by Easter, 2004. |
